How to create a Winter palette

This is a continuation of the article on color types. In the first theoretical part, we analyzed the fundamental principles of the 4 Seasons Theory (or 12/16 subgroups). Here we will move on to practice: we will collect from the entire spectrum a collection of shades suitable for the Pure Winter color type.

Shade areas on color wheels, suitable for different color types

• Let's take one of the schemes above as a basis and slightly adjust the shade area from which we will collect the palette based on the subtype for which it is composed. If the subtype is low contrast, we slightly narrow the lightness range of the main shade area.
  For Pure Winter, since it is very contrasted, the lightness range can be slightly increased. And since it is as cool as possible, we exclude the warm parts - green and red - from the main palette. In the accent area, we only leave yellow - lighter, for maximum contrast (illustration in the figure below).
• We choose several tens of shades, collecting them more or less uniformly (or according to the preferences of the composer) within the boundaries of each area. At the same time, we ensure that the lightness ranges of the shades correspond to the contrast of the type.
  Since Pure Winter is as contrasted as possible, its palette must contain both very dark and light shades (within the limit).
• We take more options from the red area, this is necessary for lipstick color selection (and not only).
• We add achromatic elements.
  For Winter, several shades of dark gray, plus black and white: maximum contrast.

Color palette suitable for the Natural (Pure) Winter color type. The image consultant who created this palette chose what they considered the most "interesting" colors from the cool part of the circle. A couple of light red-violet shades (which are beyond the line) can be used in clothing elements adjacent to the portrait area, which, in combination with other darker ones, will increase the overall contrast of the image.
A beautiful dark red color, slightly beyond the line, will also not be superfluous here, as this is one of the classic lipstick colors.
